Partnership with Parents

Parents play a large role in supporting Swannanoa Valley Montessori School. The "curriculum" for the parents is to be involved with the school in many ways. Parents are an essential component in the SVMS approach to education, which we see as a partnership involving the children, the parents and the teaching staff. Parents have literally built the school, from bookshelves to furniture to learning tools. Parents are encouraged to donate time as classroom volunteers, field trip drivers, committee members, and much more. In addition, our school is able to offer a "work exchange" program. We have a Parent Organization that meets monthly, and parents are encouraged to attend the monthly Board of Directors meetings. There are several parents, in addition to community members and staff, who reside on the Board. The strength a community can achieve by working together provides a role model for our children that will be remembered for years to come.
