SVMS SUMMER CAMPS 2010!

Children ages 3 -10 have fun and enjoy a nurturing, non-competitive learning environment during our four one-week sessions of summer fun and enrichment.


Session 1 and 2 will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday. 

Session 3 and 4 will run from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.


Camp Location:    SVMS   130 Center Ave  Black Mountain

Cost of a one week session is $120.00.

All camps include play time on our playground, equipped for the summer with lots of water games.

Session 1:
June 14-18


World Travelers

World Travelers (6-10 years old)
In this adventurous camp students will travel the continents through cooking, games, art, and music. Each day we will focus on a different region as the students prepare, cook and eat ethnic food. This is a delicious way to widen culinary horizons while learning about geography. We will also create fun art including masks, beadwork and painting.

Session 2:
June 21-25


Environmental Education

Environmental Education (6-10 years old)

Learn about Earth's ecosystem through exploration, games, and art.  Create a backyard wildlife habitat.  Experience the beauty and diversity of our mountains.  A short trip to a nearby trail is planned.

July 12-16


Construction Camp

Construction Camp (3-6 years old)

Have fun with all kinds of building.  We will explore making various structures and vehicles using all kinds of materials.  Think glue, cardboard, tin foil, paper mache, wood and nails, and more.

Session 4:
August 9-13


Creative Life Camp



Creative Life Camp (3-6 years old)

Enjoy all kinds of practical life and creative works. Lots of pouring, scooping and tweezing, but also baby washing, window cleaning, table setting and more. Lots of art will be offered, too. This camp is designed to develop children's independence, grace and courtesy, concentration, sense of order, and fine motor skills. Great for all children, brand new to Montessori or returning students.

More about the Instructors:


Ms. Kara has taught young children for years and has been with Swannanoa Valley Montessori for 2 years. She loves being outdoors and is a avid hiker and biker. Children enjoy her energy and warm sense of humor.

Ms. Lucy holds a BA in sociology and has worked in experiential education for children for 10 years. Relocated from Northern Ireland at age 13, she loves exploring cultures and diversity. She is certified in children’s yoga and spent the last two years as Assistant Teacher in a 3-6 class at SVMS.


Ms. Melanie is a seasoned and fully credentialed Montessori teacher. She has taught the Children’s House (3-6 year olds) at Swannanoa Valley Montessori School for 6 years. Children love her for her warmth and relaxed nature.

Ms. Jennifer is the Lower Elementary Teacher at SVMS. She has several years of experience teaching children in Montessori schools.  Ms. Jennifer has 2 children in SVMS Elementary and lives in Black Mountain. 










Swannanoa Valley Montessori School is AMS accredited.
Serving children 18 months to 6th grade in Asheville,
Black Mountain, NC, and surrounding areas.
